How to Support Your Child in Year 11
Your child will need to make important decisions during Year 11 about their next steps. This website will provide both of you with information and links to resources that will help.
In March 2021, we sent you a letter about what your child needs to do next to prepare for their transition to post-16. This followed the November 2020 letter, we sent you about this site. If you did not receive it, there is a short video and useful guides that explains how to use it.
Young people are expected to stay in education or training until they're 18 years old, but they decide how and where to do this. In general terms they can stay in full-time education, be in employment with formal training (like an apprenticeship), be self-employed or in training.
There are a huge number of options available across Kent and finding the right one requires some planning. To help you, we have created a term by term 'to do' calendar, a calendar of school and college open events, advice on where to get help making decisions and our top tips.
KentChoices has a prospectus which includes all Kent's sixth forms, colleges and training providers. Your child should use this to research their options, then use the same site to apply online.
In November, they are shown how to use the website and given their log in details to their personal accounts in school, but we do have guidance available on this site. Some schools may ask your child to apply independently of KentChoices.
To help you further, we have delivered a number of webinars that cover topics you and your child need to consider.
