Overview

The course is for those who are creative with ideas, enjoys taking risks with materials, techniques and processes, has a keen eye for detail and is able to refine their work to move forwards. They will enjoy working creatively with a range of media. Students will be interested in other artwork. They will need to be hard working, motivated, and good with managing time and deadlines.

Details

UNIT 1: Coursework, is 50% of AS Level and 25% of A Level. Students will explore the theme of ‘Structures’ in a variety of photographic media and materials, while observing and understanding other artists work. They will learn about dark room and digital photography. This will lead them into researching, designing and creating their own photographic artwork under the broad theme ‘Structures’ in a material of their choice. This whole project will form their coursework for ‘UNIT 1’.

UNIT 2: Externally set exam, is 50% of AS Level and 25% of A Level. This is similar to the coursework. The exam board will send through a few themes to choose from, your teacher will guide and support you through your decisions. Once you choose a theme, you will produce artist research, experiments and relevant written work to support your understanding of the theme. This will lead to planning. The final outcome will be produced in exam conditions within an art environment.

UNIT 3: Personal Investigation, is 25% of A Level. Students will explore a theme of their own choice in a variety of media and materials, while observing and understanding other artists work. Personal investigation supported by written element of 1000-3000 words. This will lead them into researching, designing and creating their own artwork under the broad theme of their own choice in a material of their choice. This whole project will form their coursework for ‘UNIT 3’.

UNIT 4: Externally set exam, is 25% of A Level. This is similar to the coursework. The exam board will send through a few themes to choose from, your teacher will guide and support you through your decisions. Once you choose a theme, you will produce artist research, experiments and relevant written work to support your understanding of the theme. This will lead to planning. Entry requirements

No previous photography experience necessary but a portfolio to show commitment to the subject will need to be presented.
