Why study this subject?

This course is ideally suited to any student who has an interest in a career that involves dealing with the public. It is particularly useful for students who are considering a career in health, care or early years occupations. This covers a wide range of jobs including teaching (early years), nursing, social work, the police, occupational therapy, radiography, personnel management etc. It is a gateway into higher education. It will provide the students with the opportunity to develop broad knowledge, skills and understanding required by the health and social care sector.


Course content:

Health and Social Care is available as a Single award (worth one A Level). There are mandatory units that will be covered and there is also optional units.

Mandatory units:

  • Building positive relationship in health and social care

  • Equality, diversity and rights in health and social care

  • Health and safety in health and social care

  • Anatomy and Physiology in health and social care

Optional units may include:

  • Supporting people with disabilities

  • Supporting people with mental health conditions

  • Psychology for health and social care

  • Sociology for health and social care

All students will have the opportunity to meet a variety of Health and Care professionals and look at working practices in a range of careers.

How will it be delivered?

There is a combination of internal coursework and external exams within this course

Entry requirements

At least 5 GCSE passes at grade 4 including English Language.
