In an increasingly interconnected world, understanding other cultures and countries is of critical importance. By learning A-level Spanish, you learn not just how to speak Spanish the fourth most widely-spoken language in the world - but about the culture and society of Hispanic nations. You will learn skills in communication, listening, speaking, critical thinking and research.


In A-level Spanish you will study both the Spanish language and the society and culture of Hispanic nations. Your knowledge of the Spanish language will be developed by looking at two broad themes: social issues and trends and political and artistic culture

How will it be delivered?

Paper 1: Listening, reading and writing (2h 30m, 50%)

Paper 2: Writing (2h, 20%)

Paper 3: Speaking (21-23m, 30%)

Entry requirements

Grade 6 in GCSE Spanish

Successful Spanish students will enjoy Spanish and have an interest in the culture of Spain and Hispanic societies. You will need to be a good linguist, with an ear for pronunciation, and also someone who is able to put yourself into the shoes of someone from a different culture and understand things from different perspectives.
