Overview

The Level 1 Diploma in Hair and Beauty has a range of units to prepare you for a career in the hair, beauty and make-up industry. This foundation course is a fantastic way to develop your skills and knowledge while also supporting the achievement of your English and Maths development. You will study a range of both theory and practical skills, these include, hair design and styling, skin care, makeup application, manicure and pedicure treatments and more. As part of your continued training, you will spend a minimum of 3 sessions a week in our modern and well-equipped beauty salons. You will be taught by experienced vocational lecturers who have worked, or are currently working, in the beauty therapy, hair and Make-up industry and they therefore have a wide and current experience of the industries needs and trends. The practical salon skills are further supported by one to one reviews, underpinning theory and work skills. Your initial training is carried out on group members before progressing onto paying clients. ?You will always be expected to behave in a highly professional manner while in the salons/studios and surrounding public areas. You will wear a uniform and are required to bring all equipment with you for each salon/studio session. Our Study Programme includes opportunities for you to develop your English and Maths skills as required. You may be expected to complete either functional skills or GCSE qualifications as part of your course depending on your GCSE results

How will it be delivered?

Assessment is continuous throughout the course. Assessment will consist of practical observations written and oral questions, coursework and end of unit tests. You will also be required to produce a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate your skills and knowledge.

Entry requirements

Completion of GCSEs. English & Maths Grade 2 or above. A genuine interest in the Beauty Therapy industry and a good school report, including a high level of attendance and a record of good behaviour.

Your next steps...

Successful students can progress onto a Level 2 programme either in Beauty Therapy or Hair and Media Make-up Artistry. You must also produce a positive report and attendance records above 90%, achieve functional skills and pass the progression entry test.
