Our new Gateway to .... courses are designed to give learners working at Entry Level, who don�t feel quite ready for a large, mainstream college course, a more supported experience of college life. Group sizes will be 8-10 with specialist staff and LSA support. They are designed as a stepping stone onto further vocational programmes and future employment. Part of the week will be spent within the Hospitality & Catering department where you will work towards an Entry Level Diploma in Vocational Studies - Hospitality and Catering, suited to learners wanting a practical experience where the development of cookery, service skills and knowledge can contribute towards a fulfilling career in the Hospitality industry. The course consists of a minimum of 7 units, all of which are taught in a practical context within our professional kitchens and restaurant. You will spend the rest of your week with staff from the Gateway department, improving your functional skills levels in English and Maths and developing health, wellbeing and social/employability skills. Units may include Fitness, independent living skills, developing hobbies and interests, planning and preparing for interviews.
How will it be delivered?
There will be coursework assessments throughout the year as well as observational assessments for practical classes. Written exams for English/maths.
Applicants will be interviewed and selected based on receiving satisfactory school report or reference. GCSEs at grade 1/2 or Functional Skills qualifications are preferable but not essential. All EHCP applicants will need their Local Authority to go th

After successful completion of this course and following an interview, learners may progress a Level 1 Diploma in Introduction to Professional Cookery, Level 1 Certificate in Culinary Skills, or Apprentice programme.
