Overview

BTEC Nationals are QCF Level 3 qualifications designed to provide the highly specialist work-related skills needed in Engineering. They give learners the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to prepare them for employment. The qualifications provide career development opportunities for work in a number of different engineering industries carrying out a variety of roles. As qualified technician�s, students have progressed to fulfil such roles as a Design Engineer as well as service/maintenance and manufacturing engineering. The qualification also allows progression to higher education on HNC/HND and Degree level programmes. The Subsidiary Diploma Engineering units will be drawn from a bank of units. Typically, the following units are an indication of what could be offered on the programme. Health and Safety in the Engineering Workplace Electrical & Electronic Principles Mechanical Principles Mathematics for Technicians Principles and Applications of Electronic Devices and Circuits Electronic Fault Finding Computer Aided Design Welding Technology Fabrication Techniques Workshop Practices This course includes the opportunity to take part in an industry placement in a sector relevant to your qualification and study programme. The placement will take place 1 or 2 days per week on the days when you are not in college studying. Industry placements are designed to give you the skills to start work at the end of your studies, progress into an apprenticeship, or to add to your UCAS statement.

How will it be delivered?

The programme provides a balance of both theoretical and practical activities complemented with computer-based exercises using the latest industry standard software packages. Assessment is continuous conducted in both formal (test) and informal (assignment based) modes.

Entry requirements

GCSE�s in English, Mathematics, Science and one other technically related subject at Grade 9-4 Or a Level 2 BTEC First Diploma in Engineering
