The course consists of 12 units over 1 year. Units: 7 Investigating Rights and Responsibilities at Work 8 Managing Your Health at Work 9 Safe Learning in the Workplace 10 Taking Part in Exercise and Fitness 11 How the Body Works 12 Planning your Own Fitness Programme 13 Assisting a Leader in a Sports Activity 14 Working in Sport and Active Leisure 15 Carrying out an Individual Project 16 Working in a Team 17 Job Opportunities in Sport and Active Leisure 18 Physical Activities for Children The BTEC programme uses continuous assessment rather than examinations and you will be able to track your performance as you work towards your targets. You will be encouraged to manage your own assessments and identify where you have met the required standards. Methods of assessment may include: web blogs, presentations, practical demonstrations, coaching sessions, posters, reports, leaflets, interviews, discussions. You will be assigned a project to complete that will link with the vocational nature of the course and you will also have the opportunity to work in the Osterberg Sports Centre. The programme is taught through practical training sessions supported by functional skills and ICT. Each lesson will provide you with assessment opportunities as you work to achieve your goals and targets. You will need an active passion in sport and your tutors will encourage you to discuss your own achievements as well as the issues in modern sport. Much of your assessment will be online in the form of web logs (blogs) and discussion of key points. Our Study Programme includes opportunities for you to develop your English and Maths skills as required. You may be expected to complete either functional skills or GCSE qualifications as part of your course depending on your GCSE results. There will also be opportunities to achieve additional qualifications such as work skills, drug awareness, first-aid, sport-specific coaching badges, gym instructing and other sport-related qualifications.
