Overview

The NCFE L3 Diploma in Sport is suited to students who wish to continue their academic studies in a specialised educational area. The course is aimed at 16-19 year olds who have just completed their GCSEs, or are looking to get back into education to study in this expanding and desirable subject area. The course provides a solid grounding for students wishing to enter the world of Sport and its associated industries, either through progression to university or by entering employment. The course consists of 7 units. During the academic year the units will be studied and assessed which will lead to achievement in a Level 3 in Diploma in Sport. On completion of the Diploma you will discuss with your tutors whether you wish to continue onto the Extended Diploma or to progress to employment or other courses in the area. Units: Anatomy & Physiology; Fitness Training & Programming for Health, Sport and Well-Being, Professional Development in the Sports Industry, Practical Sports Performance, Sports Leadership, Research Methods and Sports Event Organisation. How will I be assessed? A wide variety of assessments will be used. The NCFE programme will use continuous assessments and examinations. You will be able to track your performance as you work towards the pass, merit and distinction grades. Methods of assessment will include: structured exams, open book exams, reports, presentations, practical demonstrations, coaching sessions, posters, leaflets, experiments, interviews and discussions. To facilitate assessment, you will be expected to devote personal time for your studies. How will I be taught? The programme is a combination of practical training and classroom theory sessions. Each lesson will provide you with assessment opportunities as you work to achieve your goals and targets. You will need an active passion in sport and your tutors will encourage you to discuss your own achievements as well as the issues in modern sport. Additional Courses? During the course, there will be opportunities to achieve other qualifications in addition to your main NCFE programme. These additional qualifications may include work skills, drug awareness, first-aid, sport-specific coaching badges, gym instructing and other sport-related qualifications. Please note - there may be an additional cost to these courses. What can I do when I finish my course? The majority of learners progress onto the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport. Due to the diverse nature of the course, students are well suited to continuing their studies with degrees in sports science, sports coaching, P.E & sport, sports studies and sports management being amongst the most popular. If you want to progress into employment the following areas in the sports and leisure industry would be suitable; health & fitness, leisure centre management, football coaching, multi-sport coaching and instructing along with sports development. This course includes the opportunity to take part in an industry placement in a sector relevant to your qualification and study programme. The placement will take place 1 or 2 days per week on the days when you are not in college studying.
