Overview
Students will draw upon a range of texts as reading stimulus and engage with creative as well as real and relevant contexts. The course aims to give opportunities to develop higher-order reading and critical thinking skills that encourage genuine enquiry into different topics and themes.
Students will need to take English and Maths if they do not currently have Level 4 or higher at GCSE.

Students will study the following content as part of this GCSE:
Critical reading and comprehension

- evaluation of a writer’s choice of vocabulary, form, grammatical and structural features
- comparing texts
Writing
- producing clear and coherent text

Spoken language
- presenting information and ideas

How will it be delivered?
Assessment is via two written examinations, each accounting for 50% of the mark. Spoken language is assesses via work set and marked by the teacher throughout the course.
Entry requirements
There are no previous learning requirements. Candidates are not required to have taken any particular qualifications before taking this course. Students at Walk Tall will need to undertake a suitable employability award and a money management award as part of the programme. Students will need to take English and Maths if they do not currently have Level 4 or higher at GCSE.
