Overview

A Level Graphic Communication engages students in creative graphic design activities in which they can develop a broad range of design skills in one or more of the following disciplines:

• Advertising

• Illustration

• Branding

• Information design

Details

The course consists of two main components:

• Component 1, which makes up 60% of the overall mark and consists of two parts: Personal Investigation (72 marks) and the Personal Study (18 marks).

• Component 2, which is the Externally Set Assignment, makes up 40% of the overall mark.

Both components involve creative problem-solving, which requires students to undertake investigative and research work in addition to experimental practical exploration, looking at alternative ways to find a solution to a Graphic communication problem.

Journal work needs to be informed, purposeful and extensive. Students must learn to work with independence; carrying out in-depth research from a range of primary sources, critiquing and refining their experimentation before developing final responses.

This independent work is demanding so students must be prepared to be hard-working and innovative risk takers.

How will it be delivered?
