This course involves studying a range of heritage and contemporary
texts from the English literary canon, including poetry, prose and plays.
Students will learn how to form a debate about their reading in a
concise manner, blending their understanding of authorial methods, contextual factors and genres. Two genres are studied: tragedy and crime.
This two-year A Level course is assessed over two written exams and one
5 GCSE grades at 4 or above, including a grade 4 in English Language and Literature.
Students can progress onto university to study English Literature in greater depth, or courses such as creative writing. English Literature is one of those A Levels that is held in very high esteem by all universities and employers.
