This course looks at many aspects of the catering and hospitality industry. It starts by looking at the industry as a whole and then moves on to how to deliver good customer service and the management of staff. You will also look at areas around the world, comparing food styles and preparing a range of both domestic and international dishes. In your final year you will plan and run a large event for the school or department including the staffing, pricing and all the aspects of delivery.
You will study a number of units:
- Unit 1 Meeting Nutritional Needs of Specific Groups
- Unit 2 Ensuring Food is Safe to Eat
- Unit 3 Experimenting to Solve Food Production Problems
- Unit 4 Current Issues in Food Science and Nutrition
A combination of internally assessed assignments and practical tasks. Plus externally assessed assignments.
2 pass grades at GCSE (English and Maths) grade 4 or above
This course will give you the opportunity to go on to college or industry to either study or work in management. With the hospitality industry being the second largest employer in the country the choices are varied. The course also gives you the chance to look at overseas work with large chains or smaller businesses.
