BTEC Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Creative Media Production - equivalent to 0.5 A Levels
This course comprises of 6 Units, which are studied over two academic years (year 12 and year 13). The course content involves students developing a range of skills within pre-production, production and postproduction for television and film. The course offers students an opportunity for both theoretical and practical study.
The course aims to provide students with a portfolio of work that reflects near professional media industry standards providing an excellent opportunity for students to follow their academic studies of media and film into higher education or employment within the creative media industry.
Unit 1 Media Representations External Exam. In this unit, you will study a range of media and film representations.
Unit 8 Responding to a commission External Exam. In this unit, you will understand how to respond to a commissioned brief. You will work within the requirements and constraints of the client’s specifications and consider your response in terms of ethos, format, budget, platform and duration.
Unit 4 Pre-Production. This unit will enable you to develop your understanding of the essential pre-production work that takes place as part of a creative media production. You will gain an understanding of the requirements of the planning stage, from finance and logistics to regulations. You will create your own pre-production and complete a short film.
Unit 6 Media Campaigns. In this unit, you will develop a broad understanding of why and how media campaigns are created. You will plan your own media campaign, preparing materials and developing strategies to achieve its purpose. You will develop production skills through the creation of a cross-platform media campaign.
Unit 10 Film Production. In this unit, you will investigate how conventions of narrative storytelling are used by filmmakers, looking at formats and generic conventions. You will then prepare for a film production by creating and gathering the materials and preparing the cast and crew.
Unit 16 Factual Production. In this unit, you will gain an understanding of the codes and conventions of factual programmes. You will then be able to source and prepare appropriate content to include, following the correct procedures prior to production. You will develop your skills through the production of a factual programme for a digital media sector.
English & Maths Grade 4+.
