Overview
If you are interested in a career in the early years sector, where you have the opportunity to work with and support babies and children, this is the course for you. If you are looking to further your education within this field in speech therapy, social work, special education, play work and teaching, this course offers an excellent platform from which to develop your learning. This course will equip you with the practical skills and knowledge needed to begin professional work in a range of early years settings or provides as fantastic route into higher education. The course content is delivered in a creative way enabling you to be as active, practical and work-related as possible particularly as students have the opportunity for 50 hours of work experience in an early years setting. Alongside this, it provides robust opportunities for you to gain knowledge and understanding of a wide range of subject areas relating to early years settings.
How will it be delivered?
In the Extended Certificate you will study the following units:
• Unit 1 – Children’s Development (exam)
• Unit 2- Development of Children’s Communication, Literacy and Numeracy Skills (exam)
• Unit 3- Play and Learning
• Unit 5- Keeping Children Safe
All students will complete 50 hours of work experience in an early years settings.
Entry requirements
A minimum of 5 subjects at A*– C (Grade 4 or higher) or equivalent with at least a Grade 5 in GCSE English or BTEC Level 2 Health and Social Care or BTEC Level 2 Children’s Play, Learning and Development (distinction or higher, including a pass or higher in the examined element or distinction/distinction* overall)
