The qualification provides a coherent introduction to the study of creative digital media production at this level. Learners develop an understanding of the media industry through analysing media representations and pitching and producing media projects. It is designed for post-16 learners who aim to progress to higher education and ultimately to employment, possibly in the media industries. This course will include both internally and externally assessed units where the students will be developing their ability to analyse and deconstruct media images and representations and learn the communication and planning skills needed to work through vocational media projects such as film production. They will develop communication and research skills vital to the creative media industry.
This specification allows greater opportunities for the students to learn about the creative process in today’s growing media creation sector. Students can be truly engaged in their studies by becoming active investigators rather than passive learners, having a sense of autonomy over their work. The specification has been written to develop students’ understanding of the creative process in the media industry which will stand them in good stead for their future ambitions.
Students are required to have a grade 4 in English and Maths.
This course is a valuable introduction into the media industry for students who are maybe thinking about college or an apprenticeship after finishing the course. This course also carries UCAS points for university entry (up to A* at A Level) and will serve as a good start point for a first year at university with much of the content covered by this course being directly applicable to a Film or Media based degree.
