Overview


The variety of assessment styles used allows students to develop a wide range of skills which are invaluable for both further study and future employment. The course has a fully integrated approach to the subject, drawing on the established academic fields of stylistics, linguistics and creative writing. It has a contemporary approach to the study of a range of literary and non-literary discourses and texts, with emphasis on precise linguistic analysis. It allows students to focus on their own writing through textual exploratory work.  

Details

Year 12

Students study a range of texts under the themes of Imagined Worlds, Poetic Voices and Remembered Places. Texts are both pre- and post-1900. 

Year 13 

In the second year of teaching, students cover work under the themes of Writing about Society (re-creative writing) and Dramatic Encounters and Making Connections (one literary text and non-literary material); this final unit is the Non Exam Assessment (i.e. coursework) worth 20% of the overall A Level. A total of 6 substantial texts are covered for A Level.

Entry requirements

Grade 5 in either English Language or English Literature at GCSE is required.
