At The Canterbury Academy, students can join The Canterbury Skate Project’s business and enterprise course, which incorporates business skills within the skateboard culture.
The course provides the students with knowledge on how to set up a new business, market and produce their own product plan. They will be supported in arranging and setting up their own skate events in which they would have their own stands and be able to sell the products they have made. They will also be encouraged to set up their own online shops in which again they will be able to sell their products.
As well as teaching key academic and vocational qualifications that are embedded into the existing school programmes, this course also supports students to achieve their core GCSE subjects.
Units will include learning about the different types of businesses and their characteristics, marketing, finance, business planning and will include a practical element in which students will make and design their own skateboards from scratch. The aim is for the students to set up their own business venture selling the products that they make during the course and to provide them with the skills to continue this for the future.
There are no entry requirements for this course. We will also support students to re-take their GCSE mathematics and/or English if required.
This course will provide students with the support and knowledge for them to set up their own business enterprise, as well as providing practical skills to be able to make their own products to sell.
The qualification will allow learners to progress to further Level 3 qualifications and A Levels such as:
· NCFE Level 3 Certificate in principles of business and administration
· NCFE Level 3 NVQ Certificate in business and administration
· NCFE Level 3 Certificate or Diploma in managing a music business enterprise
