Overview

Whilst studying Design and Technology

Students develop:

  • an international approach and understanding of design through a mixture of theory and practical work.

  • skills in generating ideas and exploring possibilities and constraints to find solutions to real world problems.

  • a deep understanding that design is human-centred and focuses on the needs, wants and limitations of the end user and manufacturing techniques.

  • practical skills by undertaking a range of projects across a broad range of materials and manufacturing processes.

  • a genuine insight into how Design & Technology is currently one of the most rapidly developing industries and how it is essential to our economy.

Details

Students study the following:
• Human factors and ergonomics • Resource management and sustainable production • Modelling • Raw materials to final product • Innovation and design • Classic designs

How will it be delivered?

External Assessment (60%): • Two (SL) or three (HL) written papers containing: multiple-choice, databased, short answer and extended response questions. Internal Assessment (40%): • Practical investigations, a group project and a student driven design and manufacture project

Entry requirements

Minimum 5 GCSEs 9-5 including English and Maths
