Overview
These are exciting courses which will give you a background into the world of business and will provide plenty of opportunities to look at businesses first hand. This pathway is a vocational based approach to learning with emphasis on practical based activities underpinned by core business theories.
These courses will give you a background into the world of business and will provide plenty of opportunities to look at businesses first hand. Assessment is a mixture of coursework and external exams. The coursework is collected using assignments built around scenarios. They will include report writing, role plays, interviews, business letters and presentations. The final grade is given in a Pass, Merit, Distinction and Distinction* in line with BTEC guidelines.

We achieved outstanding results in this qualifications last year and have done so for a number of years. The Distinction* and Distinction national average was 14.5% and at Thamesview we achieved 82% with all our students completing the course with a minimum grade of Merit.

The BTEC National Extended Certificate is comprised of 4 units of which 3 are mandatory and 2 are external.
Mandatory content (83%). External assessment (58%).

Candidates will cover a further compulsory unit and one optional unit:
Developing a marketing campaign (Controlled assessment)

How will it be delivered?
The majority of the course is assessed in the classroom using various methods such as written assignments, role plays and presentation. The other units will be assessed via external examinations.
Entry requirements
We expect our Sixth Formers to have achieved at least a Grade 4 in both their English and Maths GCSEs, and at least 3 other qualifications at 4+.Students do not have to have previously studied business studies to take this course in the sixth form providing that they have met the basic entry requirements.
Your next steps...
The Single Award Level 3 BTEC Business is designed to be the part of a 16 – 19 study programme. This programme may include other BTEC Nationals or A Levels to support progression to higher education courses at universities in business areas before entering employment. This qualification can also be used to progress to Higher Apprenticeships.
