What will you be working towards?
79 Sport Mentoring is a programme introduced to support the athletic and academic journey of young people at North Kent College. For those students competing at county, regional, National, or international level who wish to study alongside their athletic commitments this is the programme for you. We have identified that there is a lack of support for athletes competing at the highest level when they are not training and competing in their chosen sport, NKC is an accredited TASS (Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme) Dual career site. This accreditation identifies that we can support the student with their academic studies for them to build a career when their sporting journey is over, we hope this will only happen when the athlete has achieved their ultimate goals, we are very aware that an athlete cannot compete forever. Our programme has many layers which is why we believe it is totally unique, our offer includes: Academic qualifications: Level 2 or Level 3 Sport Coaching & Sport Science, units will include, psychology, nutrition, fitness training and programming, fitness testing and anatomy and physiology. Excellent links to University: This includes scholarships in the USA should the individual meet the criteria as well as strong links to UK Universities who match our desire to support athletes. Employability: High focus is placed on being a dual career athlete, focusing on employability skills and work experience while studying at NKC, this is established to support the athlete beyond the sport and to identify potential career opportunities. Strength & Conditioning: Each student will receive 3 sessions per week as part of their programme, fitting additional work in to a busy schedule often is a considerable hurdle for athletes to overcome and a reason for burnout. Students will work with UKSCA (UK Strength & Conditioning Association) qualified instructors who will provide sport specific guidance and tailored programmes to support athletic development. Dual Career status: We are understanding that the life of a high-performance athlete is not predictable, we will support justifiable absences from college for training camps, competitions and one-off requirements relating to their sport. Mentoring: Each student will be provided with a personal mentor to support their growth as a student athlete. We have identified that this is the third line of support behind the work of parents and coaches. All our professional mentors have a proven track record of success in their chosen field, this is not always sport based but will challenge the student athlete to reflect and adapt to the situations which they will encounter. Tutorial Process: All students will be provided with a detailed calendar of extracurricular activities which will include: � Psychology in Sport � Nutrition for elite performance � UKAD (UK Anti-Doping) seminar � Injury prevention and rehabilitation � Mindfulness and meditation for sport performers � Drug & Alcohol awareness � Interview techniques If you would like to look at the work we do please follow us on instagram @79sports (79 Sport Mentoring)
How will it be delivered?
Students will be assessed through written assignments, presentations, coaching session, or video analysis.
We are looking for the very best athletes who wish to become well-rounded student athletes. We are currently supporting male and female athletes in cycling, weightlifting, ice skating, swimming, boxing, golf, cheer leading, rugby, netball, and kickboxing,
