Course Summary

The course gives you the opportunity to study 9 different elements of geography that are relevant to life today. You will cover a range of both physical and human elements to build upon the basics covered at GCSE but with a greater understanding of why.

Physical Geographical topics include: Tectonic Processes and Hazards; Coastal Landscapes and Change; The Water Cycle and Water Insecurity; The Carbon Cycle and Energy Security.

Human Geographical topics include: Globalisation; Regenerating Places; Superpowers; Migration, Identity and Sovereignty.

You will also be given the opportunity to develop geographical enquiry skills through your own individual enquiry project on a geographical topic of your choice.

Fieldwork is an integral part of Geography learning and there will be options to carry out a range of different fieldwork techniques as part of your learning in the above topics.

(A level content, for AS level you will study half of the topics)

Student should be inquisitive into how the world interacts and develops over time. It will suit a student who is interested in learning about places in both the UK and the world, and understanding the concepts and processes that lead to the identity of a place. It will also suit a student who is passionate about learning outside of the classroom as much as inside, both through fieldwork and through reading around the subject in the news and other similar media.
