Course Summary
Do you have an ambition or dream of finding work in the music industry? You should take a look at our offer!
SupaJam Education in Music & Media (SupaJam) is a post-16 specialist college located in Swanley and Canterbury. The main programme offer is the RSL Music Practitioners Diploma and is available for students at Levels 1, 2 and 3.
Our aim is to help students with SEN and other vulnerable young people who may have previously fallen out of formal education engage, achieve and progress in a unique, inclusive learning environment by adopting an ethos which is forward thinking, caring and encouraging whilst providing a structured, supportive and non-judgemental environment, allowing all our young people to thrive and achieve to their full potential.
The RSL programme we offer looks at exploring the music industry rather than a focus of performance and production. Students will explore what the various careers are in the industry as well as what characteristics are needed to be successful, including the need to look at your own resilience.
This year we have installed a brand new recording studio in Swanley and a state of the art digital radio station in Canterbury. From September 2021, both will be part of the programme and students will be taught how to use them.
Eligibility:
Students with an EHC Plan can attend aged 16-24.
Students without an EHC Plan can attend aged 16-19, so long as they are not 19 on the 1st September of the academic year.

Course Details
Students who are thinking of joining us will be required to complete 8 modules across the year. Programmes run from September until July with holidays in line with other school and college term dates.
Alongside the diploma, students must study English and Maths if they have not already achieved a grade 4 or above at GCSE. We offer Functional Skills or GCSE in both subjects.
We also provide our non-accredited additional curriculum which includes Practical Musicianship, SMSC and Black Deer, our work experience programme.
Students at Levels 1 and 2 will attend for 3 days a week and those at Level 3 will attend 4 days a week. The day runs from 10am – 5pm covering form time, 6 x 50 minute lessons and an hour for lunch.
Enrichment activities usually run daily and we allow students to attend from 9am to access our free breakfast club and morning music sessions.
RSL modules are a mixture of theory and practical and include looking at careers in the industry, writing lyrics, learning to produce music using Logic Pro, setting up and/or performing in music events, understanding how to make money as a musician, knowing what is required to set up your own business and understanding the music industry structure and how royalties are shared.
Practical Musicianship and Enrichment sessions offer students to be created and expressive in their love for music, whether it is playing an instrument, singing, rapping or producing music.
SMSC explores various aspects of personal development, including self-help and preparing for adulthood skills.
Black Deer is the award-winning Americana-Country music festival held in Tunbridge Wells which students work at as part of their work experience opportunities. Not a fan of Country music? Trust us, don’t knock it until you have worked at this magnificent festival!
Students can apply for bursary support and if eligible, free school meals.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
All RSL work is assessed by coursework; there are no examinations.
Functional Skills and GCSE subjects will be assessed by classwork/coursework and examinations.
