About us
We are delighted to welcome you to UKAT Sixth Form as you embark on the next exciting phase in your educational journey. Established in 2017, our vibrant, ambitious sixth form is a proud collaboration between UKAT’s successful and popular secondary schools - Brompton Academy and Chatham Grammar – where we harness their high-class collective resources and facilities to offer a joint post-16 provision that excels in its impact on young people’s futures.
Choosing where and what to study after your GCSEs is a very important decision and is the first of many that you will make for yourself. We are an aspirational learning community that will empower and challenge, but we are also a warm and welcoming one where each and every student is recognised and supported - able to pursue their personal aims and goals. We offer inspirational opportunities for those who relish intellectual challenge, support from expert staff who know you well, and the chance to learn in depth through our dynamic and exceptional teaching.
We nurture our students academically as they make the transition to independent learners and well-rounded young people and our enrichment programme offers a wide array of clubs and societies to stimulate and develop our students outside the classroom, including leading partnerships with Chelsea Football Club and Kent Crusaders Basketball as part of our sporting academies offer. UKAT students leave us to take their place in society as knowledgeable, passionate and principled individuals, confident and ready to realise their ambitions.

Student support
Life in the UKAT Sixth Form
Sixth form students are supported by large and dedicated team who are available every day should they need it. Each of our hub schools has an experienced and dedicated Student Support Officer based in our bespoke Sixth Form areas who offers advice, information, support and guidance. Each Hub school also has a Senior Leader and Head of Year who work together with the wider Sixth Form team to provide ambitious leadership for our entire post-16 community. UKAT has a specialist Sixth Form Careers Advisor to ensure comprehensive support for students’ future planning and preparation, including one-to-one meetings, focused group sessions and wrap-around guidance for UCAS, apprenticeship and training applications.
Weekly tutorial sessions cover topics as diverse as personal wellbeing, work experience, university applications and habits of learning. Weekly tutorial sessions ensure that students are helped to keep on target, organised and focused, with tutors providing one-to-one and group support. Our ‘Core’ programme uses a wide range of guest speakers and covers important issues such as young people’s health, finance, alcohol and drugs awareness, driver awareness, self-defence and first aid. Both hub schools have well-appointed, modern learning and recreational space for Sixth Form students to study and relax in during the week, providing a mature and calm environment. Students also have easy and full access to and support from our schools’ extensive welfare and wellbeing support teams should the need arise.

Additionally, there a limited number of scholarships and residential opportunities available each year to support students into Higher Education with the University.
What makes us different?
UKAT Sixth Form provides a wide and diverse curriculum to meet the specific aspirations and needs of our students. We offer programmes of study that are tailored to the individual strengths and abilities of each student and are proud of our extensive range of A levels and Applied General Qualifications (AGQs), taught by expert classroom teachers with specialist knowledge, with access to high-quality, bespoke facilities and resources. Our timetable has been carefully designed to enable students to learn and develop more widely through a balanced and varied schedule that compliments classroom learning with study, enrichment and personal revision.
The vast majority of our students follow a programme of three core subjects, comprising of a combination of A Levels and Applied General Qualifications (subject to meeting entry criteria, course availability and timetable blocking), along with:
· A Personal Tutorial session each week
· A ‘Core Programme’ session each week (Personal, Social, Health education and careers guidance)
· Extended Project Qualification sessions (for those taking this course alongside three subjects)
· Designated Clubs & Societies sessions*
· Planned personal programme time (for study, revision, travel and breaks)
*for some clubs, such as sports academies, times of these sessions vary owing to match and training requirements
Students do have the opportunity to study an additional A Level as part of a four-course academic programme, and this will be considered on an exceptional basis. We also offer a limited provision for students who need to retake GCSE English or mathematics alongside their main programme. This will be discussed on an individual basis upon enrolment and timetabled as part of a student’s core academic programme.

Teaching, Learning & Assessment
At UKAT our goal is that our students will be, through our approach to teaching:
• Curious
• Prepared
• Ambitious
• Enthused
• Confident
We provide a balance of structured, carefully planned lessons with an underlying philosophy which ensures that students have regular opportunities to analyse, evaluate and be creative – enhancing their independence and higher-level critical and reasoning skills that will fully prepare them for examinations and the demands of Higher Education and beyond. Expert subject leaders and teachers have shaped their curricula to ensure effective sequencing and progression of knowledge and skills that accelerates students’ competencies effectively and fully prepares them for appropriate assessment.
Our teachers regularly assess both formally and informally to check progress, understand students’ individual needs as they emerge and develop, and provide high-value feedback that helps students improve skills and learn. Students’ target grades are used in feedback and reports to parents and carers three times per year to actively to support progress toward their expected end goals and beyond.
We hold high expectations of students as owners of their education which extends to their personal organisation, homework, reading and revision. Our Sixth Form leadership team provide close support and monitoring of standards, and liaise closely with parents and carers to help students stay on track and on target.
At UKAT we pride ourselves on ensuring continuity of learning support for those with SEND (special educational needs and disabilities). For new students starting with us, we will contact your previous school to establish that we are providing the correct support and/or relevant exam access arrangements. Support at Key Stage 5 also extends to help with organisation, assessment for exam concessions, careers advice and the opportunity for work experience or volunteering for some of our learners with SEND.
