About us
Welcome to Saint George's Church of England School (Gravesend)
Thank you for considering Saint George's Sixth Form. As the Head of Sixth Form here, I take great pride in the school and in our continued success. We believe strongly in developing student holistically to ensure they leave us with excellent academic success, alongside being developed as an all round individual with strong leadership and interpersonal skills. Our school is rated as Ofsted Good and our personal development curriculum as Ofsted Outstanding (October 2023). Students at Saint George's have the choices of a broad A Level curriculum, alongside vocational courses. Students are able to take a straight A Level curriculum of three subjects, or a mixed curriculum of A Levels and vocational subjects. Due to Government reviews of upcoming changes to the post 16 qualifications due to begin in September 2025, all colleges and sixth forms must wait until December 2024 to know how many vocational subjects a student can take, alongside A Level courses.
In October 2021 our King building opened, which houses a state of the art Sixth Form Study Centre, including a suite of 30 computers, study areas, social spaces and a canteen specially serving this space. Within this building we also have a brand new dance studio and music rooms, including a recording studio, and a large number of new classrooms with new technology including interactive white boards. Our school site has many other wonderful facilictiies inlcuding our floodlit sports field and multi use games area (MUGA).
We are pleased to say that around 35% of our sixth form cohort join the Saint George's community in year 12, along with a large number of students who continue from our current year 11 into sixth form. All students who start their sixth form journey with us, regardless of which school they attended in year 11, are very quickly immersed into our school community.
In 2024, 63% of our cohort took up a university place, with almost all of them gaining entry to their first choice university, a number of these being Russell Group universities. 15% of our 2023 cohort secured level 4 or degree apprenticeships and the rest of our cohort secured high quality employment opportunities. We work hard with our students from the beginning of year 12 to help them make informed choices about their post-18 destinations and provide a comprehensive programme of talks and activities to help them explore their options. All students are fully supported during their applications, whether this be for university, apprenticeships or employment, to ensure they stand the best possible chance of success. We strive for our students to be ambitious and run specific support sessions for those who do wish to apply to Oxbridge, Russell Group universities or specialist courses such as medicine, dentistry or veterinary science.

About us
Saint George’s Church of England School is a mixed comprehensive. Saint George’s Sixth Form is open to all, regardless of creed, gender or ethnic origin. Anyone can apply to join the Sixth Form provided they will benefit from the courses they intend to study. It is expected that the majority of the students in Year 11 will apply to continue into our Sixth Form. We also welcome applications from students at other schools and have a successful community where new students are welcomed in Year 12. Our available spaces for our Sixth Form in each year group is 120. Students are expected to study three Level 3 courses, however, if a student wishes to study our new T Level course, this is equilivant to three courses. If necessary, we do offer GCSE resit opportunities for students who do not achieve a grade 4 in English (Lit or Lang) or Maths, but still are able to meet our entry requirements to three Level 3 courses.
There are specific entry requirements for each subject available at on Kent Choices, on our website, or available at our open evening on the 12th November 5pm - 7pm. Students must meet the subject specific entry requirements, alongside gaining five grade 5s at GCSE. Please ensure you have read these carefully either on our website or within the subject specific areas of this site.
Every attempt will be made to offer the students their first choice of course, but it must be realised that occasionally courses are over-subscribed or the curriculum banding prevents a combination of subject to be studies. We write our curriculum structure in early 2025 and use the provisional applications to help us create a structure that will allow the majority of students to study their choices. No offer or place on a course can be confirmed until the release of GCSE results in August 2025 and the students has completed the enrolment process. We will provide offer's in March and April based on predicted grades and whether they indicate our entry requirements can be met. All offers are conditional based on actual GCSE grades and are not specific to a course, but rather a place in our Sixth Form.
For a full list of subjects available for study at Saint George’s and details of the courses see the programmes offered by us on this site.
On entry into the Sixth Form, students are asked to sign a contract stating that they are committed to serious study, punctuality and full attendance at lessons, registration and relevant worship. All absences must be verified. Students will be required to stay on site all day, even when they have study periods.
Saint George’s is proud of its strong reputation for looking after its students. Each student is assigned to a tutor group. This member of staff has responsibility for day to day contact and administration, as well as being the first person to talk to about future plans, personal problems or difficulties with work. In addition, our Head of Sixth Form, Mrs Pye, supports students with raising achievement and maintain the standard of work required.
Life in the Sixth Form is somewhat different from school pre-16. All the students have chosen to join the Sixth Form, and the relationships between students and staff reflect this. It is expected that students will take a large measure of responsibility for their own learning, working to longer deadlines than in the past, using private study time constructively and asking staff for help and guidance when needed. Teaching groups are smaller and often great emphasis will be placed on discussing concepts in class time, with reading and writing up of material being done in private study time and at home. Often it will be necessary to read ahead prior to a class in order to be able to contribute to discussion.
We offer a comprehensive personal development programme to allow students to develop their skills and knowledge beyond their subject areas and be fully prepared for their life ahead. In addition, students are invited to contribute to the wider school community; coaching sports teams, peer mentoring younger students, including in our primary phase or by accepting a greater degree of responsibility within our student leadership programme. All students are expected to contribute at least 10hrs towards our school community and a reward system is in place for those who meet this expectation.
Our experience has been that student who commit themselves to the life of the Sixth Form gain enormously from their studies and from everything else that the Sixth Form has to offer. They are better able to find success in the step they take at 17, 18 or beyond, and we are confident that if you choose to join us, you will continue this tradition.
