Herne Bay High School Post 16 Open Evening 3 December 2019

The Sixth Form Open Evening for all Year 11 and visiting students takes place on Tuesday 3rd December from 17:30 to 19:30. The event begins with an information talk in the Bay Theatre. Subject specialists will then be available in the covered courtyard. The event is designed to help students make informed choices for their post-16 studies. The Sixth Form is a high profile part of Herne Bay High school with an excellent track record of examination results and applications to competitive courses in Higher Education, other academic routes, apprenticeships and alternative training pathways. All students have access to high-quality guidance and support throughout their time in the Sixth Form. Mentoring conversations assist students with everything from discussions around academic progress, setting personal targets, career pathways and personal issues. The pastoral support at Herne Bay High is an area of particular strength. Choosing the correct subjects to study and excelling in them is vital for all students. We hope that the information contained within the online prospectus will help students to make informed decisions around the subject choices and the career pathways available to them. The School offers a challenging and broad range of ‘A’ level options. Please refer to the prospectus on Kent Choices which contains information about the courses available to study from September 2020. Each course description outlines entry requirements, potential Higher Education opportunities and potential careers, which we hope you will find useful. All students are expected to study three courses. All A-Level courses follow the new linear format, where students are assessed at the end of the second year of study. Option choices for studying in the Sixth Form should be completed by 7th February 2020. This allows students time to consider their performance in mock examinations and discuss choices with form tutors and subject teachers, which we strongly encourage. Students applying from other schools are invited to discuss their choices with our staff at any stage, particularly during individual application meetings. We look forward to seeing you at the Open Evening. The Sixth Form Team
