Chatham & Clarendon Grammar School is a merger of two well-established, successful 11-18 grammar schools. There are approximately 1,700 students on roll and the schools have operated a joint mixed Sixth Form since September 2010. The overwhelming majority of Chatham and Clarendon Year 11 students stay on into the Sixth Form and it is also a popular choice for Year 11 students across Thanet/East Kent - roughly a third of sixth form students join us from other local secondary schools.
The Sixth Form has a strong track record of examination success at A Level and post-16 vocational courses, and a very high proportion of students go on to university and college, many of whom are the first generation in their families to do so. The whole Sixth Form experience is structured and organised to be supportive and to fulfil the potential of every student. Dedicated and experienced staff get to know the students as individuals and work with them to achieve the best possible grades and to realise their ambitions. Whilst we encourage students to aim high and pursue academic excellence, the sixth form is no mere 'cramming factory' - we are also concerned to help our students develop as compassionate, creative, responsible young citizens who will make a worthwhile contribution to society. Our students are able to participate in a busy and varied programme of enrichment, extra-curricular and social activities.
What makes us different?
Don't be deceived by the obviously vintage architecture of much of the campus - behind the historic facade students are able to access well-equipped specialist teaching accommodation, including a total of 14 Science laboratories, 5 Technology workshops, 6 ICT suites, and the full range of specialist rooms for the Arts
The Chatham site includes excellent facilities for Sport & PE with pitches and a modern astro-turf. In addition to two school libraries, students are also welcome to use the ultra-modern refurbished Ramsgate Library, right next door to Clarendon House. The Common Room has state-of-the-art informal study facilities including both desktops, full wi-fi access and internet cafe, to match the standard of any university Student Union.
A significant strength of the school is the support which is provided for Sixth Form students - in identifying and meeting their subject preferences, help in dealing with the transition to Sixth Form and with settling in to a more adult learning environment; monitoring their progress, helping them to manage the pressures of school work, and guidance step by step through the process of applying for university. Every student is known as an individual.
