About us

A GOOD local College for Medway and Maidstone

Every year over 6000 students from Medway, Maidstone and beyond choose MidKent College to continue their studies and prepare for their future career.

Our sparkling £86 million Medway Campus boasts some of the best vocational training facilities in the country as well as its own fine dining restaurant, staff and student social zones and more. Our Maidstone Campus on the Oakwood Park complex has undergone a major redevelopment costing a total of £23m to provide state-of-the-art workshops, new student social zones and more. As part of the rebuild and refurbishment, we proudly opened University Centre Maidstone, providing a valuable higher education and professional training centre for Maidstone.

For over 100 years we've been providing high-quality technical training and apprenticeships in a range of subject areas.

In November 2018 Ofsted rated the College as 'Good'.

Student support

Financial Support

Our Student Finance team can offer information on the financial support available through the College that can help you with childcare, travel, uniforms, college meals, equipment and textbooks. We operate both Discretionary and Guaranteed bursary funds.

Careers Guidance

We're all about preparing you for work, and recognise that from time-to-time it helps to have some impartial advice and guidance about the options that are available and the right path for you. We have a brilliant team of Careers Advisers working across both campuses who are here to support you, backed by the latest labour market information to help you make informed decisions.

Student Engagement

Our Student Engagement team works hard to make sure that our students enjoy their time at College, but also to ensure that the views of students are represented when we're making plans or taking decisions. We have regular Student Voice events throughout the year, and a s Student Voice Cabinet (a bit like a Student Union committee) to help students get involved in all aspects of College life.

Welfare and Counselling

We appreciate that there are things that happen in our lives that often require us to seek help and advice. Our Welfare and Counselling team can help you manage those things and get the help you need, so that you can stay on track with your studies.

Additional Learning Support (ALS)

ALS is available to students who feel that they need additional help with their studies, including students with disabilities and learning difficulties. Please visit our website to check eligibility and support available.

What makes us different?

It's all about you

Ofsted describe us as a 'student-centred College' where every decision, in every area of the College, is focused on how it benefits you. Your success is our success, and we'll do everything in our power to help you achieve and thrive here.

We're big

More young people choose to study with MidKent College than any other school or training provider in Medway and Maidstone. That means we've got a thriving community where students can enjoy their time at College while preparing for work. It also means we can offer a broad range of programmes to suit your needs.

We train you in simulated work environments

Yes, we have 'normal' classrooms too, but your programme with us will involve a significant amount of time in one of our simulated work environments getting to grips with the same equipment and technology that you'll find in the workplace. That means for example that our Healthcare Practitioners learn in a mock hospital ward (and, thanks to our unique partnership with organisations like Medway Hospital and Cygnet Health Care, real wards too), Graphic Designers work in fully-equipped design studios, Construction Tradespeople develop their skills in fully-equipped and spacious workshops, and Cabin Crew take to the skies in our aircraft cabin!

Our tutors have worked in the areas they teach

All of our tutors have built their careers in their subject areas before becoming teachers. That means you'll benefit from their considerable experience in the workplace, and their teaching will come to life through real-life case studies and examples of projects that they've been involved with - invaluable to help you prepare for work. They also have links back to industry, which helps us secure the very best guest speakers and experiences for our students.

Your career starts here

College is a mature environment where our goal is to help you get ready to either secure your dream job or get a place at University to keep studying. Everything we do, provide and encourage you to experience is designed with that aim, and we're single-minded in our determination to help you succeed.
