About us

Welcome to Simon Langton Girls' Grammar School

Simon Langton Girls' Grammar is a mixed Sixth Form. A longstanding pillar of the community, we have a history of academic excellence and a tradition of sending our students to the best colleges, institutes and universities worldwide.

At Simon Langton Girls' Grammar School, we challenge our students to go beyond the confines of the A-Level syllabus and enrich their intellectual and cultural understanding of the world through the "Langton Extended Curriculum".

As part of the "Langton Family", our Sixth Form students benefit from the exceptional level of help, support and guidance that we provide and the emphasis that we place on the development of those soft skills that are increasingly required by graduates to respond to the ever-changing and complex needs of the contemporary workplace.

Our school motto, "Meliora Sequamur" (Let's Aim for Better Things) underlines our 800 year-old tradition of commitment to excellence and our belief that we are lifted up and borne aloft by the understanding gained by those who have gone before us.

About us

Students study 3 or 4 A Level subjects, an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) and take part in the Intellectual Vision and Endeavour (IVE) Programme and an augmentation programme on Wednesday afternoons as part of the Langton Extended Curriculum.

The Langton Extended Curriculum:

The Extended Project Qualification

The EPQ is an independent project carried out by the student with the help of one of our expert supervisors. Students choose to write a 5000 word dissertation or scientific report, a 1000 word essay supplemented with an artefact or a performance.

The Intellectual Vision and Endeavour (IVE) Programme

The IVE Programme encourages a culture of intellectual expansion through a programme of innovative and visionary lectures and original research projects delivered by subject specialists, professors, doctors and world leading experts in their field.

Wednesday afternoons

On Wednesday afternoons, all Sixth Form students enrol for a research project, a sporting activity or design their own bespoke programme at the Girls' Langton Old Dover Road campus or the Boys' Langton Lane campus.

Student support

Additional support

We firmly believe that for pupils to do well, they have to feel good about being at school and good about themselves. We encourage our students to aspire to excellence throughout the relationships that they develop between themselves and their teachers built on encouragement, sensitivity to needs and mutual respect. This is at least as important as the knowledge they learn in the formal and informal curriculum.

While teachers provide constant academic support and Form Tutors have overall responsibility for a student's welfare, Simon Langton Girls' Grammar School has a designated Sixth Form Pastoral Manager who helps students with mental health.

We encourage our students to enjoy overcoming new challenges, to become resilient and responsible learners, to play a leading role in our community and to develop a growth mindset.

We are a school that supports our students throughout the two year A Level course and offers our students an outstanding level of help and guidance in their application to university and alternative options such as apprenticeships.

The Top Flight Programme

This is our very successful specialist support programme for students who wish to apply for highly competitive courses including Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Dentistry and Law and highly competitive universities including Oxford and Cambridge. We provide:

• A subject specialist academic mentor

As a result of our exceptional exam success and the work that we do with our students, our acceptance rates significantly exceed the national average.
