We are part of the Skinners' family of schools and provide an all ability non-fee paying independent education in stunning  facilities based on a culture of high standards and aspirations, active participation and an emotionally rich learning environment. In our sixth form students have the opportunity to study the International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme, a flexible, progressive and challenging programme that looks to address the needs of students engaged in career-related studies.

About us

We are an independent non fee-paying school funded by the Department for Education and supported fully by its lead sponsor The Skinners’ School,  and the Skinners’ Company, one of the 12 great livery companies in the City of London.

The Skinners’ Kent Academy is founded on the principles of a culture of high standards and high aspirations, a culture of active participation, an emotionally rich learning environment and an inclusive environment where every child is known and every learner supported. We seek to make learning exciting and celebrate our innovative and distinctly internationally-focussed curriculum which sets us apart from many other schools.

The main aim of the academy is to provide the highest quality of education for students in Year 7 to Year 13. In addition, the Academy aims to raise and reflect aspirations within the local community and provide educational, social and economic benefits for all.

It is founded on the following key principles:

A culture of high standards and high aspirations

The Academy is an exciting place of learning, offering an outstanding education tailored to meet individual needs. A spirit of entrepreneurship is encouraged, in order that students gain an understanding of the benefits that business and social enterprise can offer to themselves and the local wider community.

A culture of participation

Good citizenship and community engagement are encouraged, recognised and celebrated. Students develop confidence in their problem solving abilities. They also develop a sense of initiative, leadership skills and the determination to see ideas through to completion. The Academy encourages students to take risks, accept failures and try different approaches in order to help prepare them for a rapidly changing world and meet the expectations required for work in the 21st Century.

An emotionally rich learning environment

The foundations of a happy and fulfilled life are developed and nurtured by strong supportive relationships between students, staff and peers. Students are balanced, articulate people, who have a strong sense of self-worth and compassion for others.

All who study, work or visit the Academy feel safe, welcome and valued, irrespective of ability, belief, gender or ethnicity. All students and their families have a sense of worth, identity, aspiration and belonging.

What makes us different?

The IB Career-related Programme is a coherent blend of IB academic courses with a Career-related study (CRS). The CRS is provided by another awarding body. At The Skinners Kent Academy, it is either BTEC or LIBF.  The curriculum is founded on the tenets of the IB Learner Profile. It is aligned to a skills based core with the formal qualifications provided by the Diploma Programme (DP) courses and the CRS. Students study a minimum of two DP Courses (which can be Standard Level or Higher Level), the Career-related study and the Core.

Facilities available

Our Vision for our Students

We see the time that our young people spend at the Academy as part of a very important journey of discovery, development and self-awareness and we aim to motivate and inspire our students to achieve their very best and to set course on the brightest of futures. We view education as a continuum and strive to instil a genuine love of life-long learning in our young people so that they can have the very best opportunities for the next stage in their education, training or careers. Our co-curricular and extra-curricular enrichment provision is extremely important and central to our students’ experience at the Academy and we are committed to finding and developing everything that is exceptional in each child, enabling all our students to flourish within a framework of high expectations.
