Course Summary

At A Level the Drama and Theatre Studies specification focuses on working with plays to allow students to grow creatively and imaginatively in both devised and scripted work. Studying plays from the point of view of a director, designer, performer and critic, the course enables students to acquire a knowledge and understanding of the language and drama of theatre as well as to develop their performing and analytical skills. The course builds on knowledge acquired at GCSE and allows student to develop their skills in the creative and rehearsal process, and in analysing and evaluating a range of theatrical texts Learners will research and practically explore practitioners and create, devise and perform original theatre. Leaners will explore a variety of performance texts and evaluate and analyse live theatre performance. In addition students will interpret and explore text considering how to create, develop and direct a performance for audience. The course will develop skills in communication, analysing texts and performance, planning, facilitating and realising performance through different rehearsal processes. The aim is for the student to become an independent practitioner in preparation for an arts-based degree course or for Drama School. The course also may be a compliment to other career aspirations such as teaching, arts administration, arts education, or any career involving public speaking or group work.
