Course Summary
Law is a dynamic and exciting subject that has broad applicability to a range of careers and study options. Studying Law gives students an understanding of the role of law in contemporary society and raises their awareness of the rights and responsibilities of individuals. By learning about legal rules and how and why they apply to real life, students also develop their analytical ability, decision making, critical thinking and problem-solving skills. All these skills are highly sought after by higher education and employers.
Course Details
As well as exploring the structure of the UK legal systems students are given the opportunity to explore specific areas of law including contract, tort, criminal and human rights law.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
There are three exams at the end of year 13. All exams are 2 hours long.
Entry requirements
Students must have a minimum of a grade 5 in English. History GCSE is desirable

A Level law develops numerous skills which are transferable and preparatory for undergraduate study. Skills of analysis, reliability of sources, debating, critical thinking and problem solving appropriately prepare for degree courses especially in Law, Politics, International Relations, History, Philosophy, Economics and Business.
The course will develop understanding of a range of legal principles and is a useful introduction for students considering careers in law (barrister, solicitor, police and court services). It also helps to develop a range of skills that would be transferable to many other careers such as social work, business management, journalism, the armed forces and the civil service.
