Course Summary

A-Level Politics allows students to engage with the inner workings of politics and government in the UK and around the world; both in a practical sense via engaging with the media around them both on a local, national and international level as well as theoretical political science. The course allows students to engage with the mechanics of the government, from how the Prime Minister interacts with the Cabinet. The course, also encourages debate and critical thinking both in writing and orally from topics covering climate change, war, the cost-of-living crisis, and whatever else is in the news on a given day.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Paper 1: Government and politics of the UK (33.3%)

Paper 2: The government and politics of the USA / Comparative politics (33.3%)

Paper 3: Political ideas (33.3%)


Entry requirements

Grade 9-4 in 5 GCSEs including English. Although not a requirement, it is desirable that you have studied History before.
