Course Summary
IBCP students will take a minimum of three courses of study. All of these will be Level 3 courses (A/AS Level equivalent). The courses will be a combination of vocational BTEC qualification (equivalent to up to 3 A Levels, approximately 10 hours of study per week) and 2 IB subjects (approx. AS level each and studied for 5 hours a fortnight). If you select this subject you must also select two IB subjects in your application.
Health and Social Care is one of the fastest growing sectors for employment in the UK and there are a range of exciting professions within the sector that you will be ready to enter, via employment or apprenticeship, or study further at University. The course includes 100 hours of work experience and units on human lifespan development, public health promotion, nutrition and anatomy and physiology.
Students who studied Health and Social Care at King Ethelbert School earned University places to study Midwifery, Nursing, Social Work, Primary School Teaching, Paramedic Science, Psychology and Health Policy.
Course Details
For the BTEC Diploma in Health and Social Care (2 A level equivalent), there are 8 units. 6 which are mandatory and two which are optional.
The mandatory units are:
Human Lifespan Development
Working in Health and Social Care
Enquiries into Current Research in Health and Social Care
Principles of Safe Practice in Health and Social Care
Meeting Individual Care and Support Needs
Promoting Public Health
Optional Units are chosen on discussion with the class.
For the Extended Diploma (3 A level equivalent) there is a further mandatory unit (Anatomy and Physiology for Health and Social Care) plus a further 4 optional units, totalling 13 units.

Entry requirements
For entry into King Ethelbert School Sixth Form all students must attain 5 grades between Grade 9 and Grade 4 (or equivalent) with a Grade 5 in both English Language and Mathematics.
There is no requirement to have taken H&SC at KS4 to take the course at KS5.
