Course Summary

The GCE Advanced Level in Business Studies aims to encourage students to investigate different types of organisations in various business sectors and environments, recognising that they face varying degrees of competition. Students learn to identify business problems and then plan appropriate investigations into such problems. They fully develop their understanding of business and enterprise, justifying their decisions based on quantitative and qualitative methods. GCE Business gives learners the knowledge, understanding and skills they need to prepare for employment and higher education. It is a very exciting, dynamic and rewarding subject that can lead to great opportunities in the future.

Course Details

Year 12

The course is made up of two mandatory units that are internally assessed through examinations:

Unit 1 - The Local Business Environment (50%) and

Unit 2 - The Wider Business Environment (50% ).

Learners must complete both units.

Year 13

The course is made up of three mandatory units that are externally assessed through examinations:

Unit 1 - Operating in a Local Business Environment

Unit 2 - The UK Business Environment

Unit 3 - The Global Business Environment.

Entry requirements

Students require a Grade 5 in English Language and a Grade 5 in Mathematics at GCSE.

GCE Business provides a route to employment, apprenticeship or further education at university, all leading into the many diverse areas of business. These include roles in specialist areas such as management, marketing, finance, customer service or human resources in large organisations or a more generic role in a small local or start-up business. On successful completion of GCE Business, a learner can progress to continue their study in the same or a related area at university.
