Course Summary
A BTEC in Business will give students an opportunity to develop the knowledge and qualifications gained during their GCSEs or provide an important introduction into how businesses operate. This course will provide an understanding of many topics, which can be applied to students lives either inside or outside any organisation. Students will learn how to use terminology correctly and confidently whilst preparing for examination units and gain an introduction into many aspects of business life. Students will learn about personal and business finance, understanding what the key terms are as well as being taught how to calculate finances. This will provide essential skills that will benefit them throughout life. Topics such as recruitment and selection will support preparation for future employment as students will learn how to make themselves more desirable, as well as the opportunity to practice interview techniques and gain feedback on how they could improve this in a real life situation. These skills would benefit all students even if a career in business is not pursued. Units surrounding the topics of marketing are well suited to creative learners, where they design and implement marketing campaigns to meet a specific need. Some units will help support a career in business, but others will provide students with key life skills.
Course Details
Students will study the two examination units of the course, Marketing (promoting products) and Personal and Business Finance (how to manage money) as well as units in Exploring Business (a contrast of business practices) and Recruitment (reasons for recruitment and interview techniques), both of which are coursework.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
The course is assessed through 50% examination. There are two equally weighted examination papers, one taken at the end of year 12 and the other at the end of the course. The non-examined assessment (coursework assignments) is marked by the teacher and is worth the other 50% of their final grade, one piece is submitted in year 12 and the other in year 13.
Entry requirements
Previous experience of business at KS4 would be ideal.
