Course Summary

This year, the Business department are offering BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Business, equivalent to two A Levels . BTEC National Level 3 in Business is one of the few qualifications that will help you succeed in your future career no matter what you go on to do. The principles of business that you will learn here, underpin every organisation from marketing to interpersonal and presentation skills. You’ll have the opportunity to gain specific knowledge, understanding and skills that are relevant to your chosen subject or area of work. With a track record built over 30 years of learner success, BTEC Nationals are widely recognised industry and higher education as the signature vocational qualification at Level 3. This BTEC national in Business has been written in close collaboration with experts from professional bodies, businesses and universities, to ensure that the content meets providers’ needs and provides high-quality preparation for progression. As such it will provide progression to the workplace either directly or via study at a higher level at university level. BTECs embody a fundamentally learner-centred approach to the curriculum, with a flexible, unit-based structure and knowledge applied in project-based assessments. Students of BTEC Level 3 Business perform vocational tasks that encourage the development of transferable skills such as, communication, teamwork, research and analysis. In addition, the course provides the opportunity to learn independently; the ability to research actively and methodically and the ability to give presentations and be active group members.

Course Details

Learners studying this qualification will cover 8 units giving a wide breadth of knowledge, understanding and experience. These include internally assessed through course work: Unit 1 Exploring Business investigating two contrasting types of business, typically a public limited company and a small local charity, their customers, internal structure, markets and how they compete; Unit 4 Managing an event, whereby students work in teams to plan and deliver their own event; Unit 5 International Business considering the wider global economy, cultural differences and international commerce; Unit 8 Recruitment and Selection Process investigating the recruitment design and selection methods used by employers, preparing students for both being employee and employers; and Unit 27 Work experience, when students will be find a placement in the local business community and reflect and learn from their experiences, gaining insight into of the real world of work. In additional, students will study for four examinations. These include; Unit 2 Developing a Marketing Campaign; Unit 3 Personal and Business Finance and Unit 6 Principles of Management.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

For internal assessment student could be assessed for:
- Producing a business plan
- Creating a Powerpoint presentation
- Designing Excel documents
- Written documents, e.g. memo, report, briefing document
- Longer written analysis and evaluation
- Observation sheets from teachers
- Witness statements

Entry requirements

General entry requirements:

International Baccalaureate Career-Related Programme: 3 x grade 6 and 2 x grade 5 at GCSE or equivalent.
