Course Summary

Computer Science A Level qualification via a distance learning package with Oxbridge.uk - one of the UK leading providers of online learning at A Level.

Students will need to be independent and self motivated to study this course. Students choosing to study this course must do so alongside 3 other A Levels with Computer Science being a fourth A Level.

Students will be allocated a room on their timetable and given access to computer facilities to enable them to access the online course at set times during the school day. Where possible, this will also be supervised by a non-teaching member of staff although this can not be guaranteed. For one taught period once a fortnight a member of the Computer Science department will be timetabled with the class. They will act as a mentor for students through the course and will have access to the online programme so they can track how far through the course the student has progressed. This member of staff will not review, assess or mark any work produced by the students.

The course is designed and delivered solely by Oxbridge.uk. Trinity School takes no responsibility for the content, delivery or assessment of the course. Students, parents and carers need to satisfy themselves that the course is suitable to their needs before opting for this course.

Trinity School will pay the cost of the course and will enter students for the appropriate examinations as they normally would at the end of Year 13. Students have 14 days from their first electronic enrolment to change their mind and opt out of the course, after which Trinity reserves the right to seek financial compensation to cover the costs of the course which is currently £749.

Course Details

The answers to the following questions have been provided by a representative of Oxbridge.uk. Trinity School has not verified them and cannot take responsibility for their accuracy.

How Is The Course Delivered?
Online via a dedicated portal, material is presented sequentially so students progress through the course in a logical manner. Students can work at their own pace.

What Support Is Available If A Student Is Struggling?
Tutor support is available at any point and for as many times as needed via email. Tutors will respond within 24-48 hours. Oxbridge.uk also has a dedicated student support team who will be on hand to support as well.

How Will The Programming Element Of The Course Be Delivered?
We are planning to build in some programming exercises to teach students the programming skills they need for the paper 4 examination. They will most likely be through the use of an online IDE.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Students are given 10 assessments which they sit at different times throughout the course. They will sit 6 end of topic assessments and 4 practice papers (one for each unit). These are assessments that contain written questions that match the style of the examination papers. Students can print these and complete them by hand and then scan/upload their answers or they can complete their answers electronically and then update their answers. Each assignment is marked by a subject expert and students are given a mark and feedback on their performance. Students will receive an email when their assessments have been marked.
