General Sixth Form Entry Requirements: - Minimum 4 GCSE passes at Grade 4 and above to study BTEC or vocational courses; 5 GCSE passes at 4 and above to study A level/BTEC combination; 5 GCSE's at Grades 5 and above to study straight A Levels.

Course Summary

This course is for students who enjoy problem-solving, creativity and technology, and who want to understand how digital applications are designed and built. It suits those with an interest in coding, game design, website development or user experience, as well as students considering future careers in computing, software engineering or the digital industries. The course is ideal for learners who are organised, curious and motivated to work on practical, project-based tasks.

Course Details

Mandatory Units:

F160: Fundamentals of Application Development – Understand the core principles of creating applications, including software types, development methodologies, and project planning.

F161: Developing Application Software – Dive into software development processes, data handling, APIs, and security considerations.

F162: Designing and Communicating UX/UI Solutions – Learn to design user-friendly interfaces and effectively communicate design ideas.

Additional Units:

F163: Game Development – Explore game design concepts, develop high-fidelity prototypes, and understand the gaming industry’s standards.

F164: Website Development – Build responsive websites using HTML5, CSS3, etc.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

- 40% External Exams: Written assessments for Units F160 and F161.

- 60% Coursework (NEA): Project-based assignments for Units F162, F163, and F164.

Entry requirements

Four GCSE grades 9-4 or equivalent, including English Language and Mathematics.

The qualification can be used for progression onto Higher Education courses. The qualification carries UCAS points which are awarded based on the grade achieved by the student.
