Course Summary
AAQ BTEC Computing is designed for students who want to deepen their understanding of computer science and develop practical skills in programming, problem-solving, and digital systems. The course provides a strong foundation for further study or careers in computing, software development, cybersecurity, and related fields.
Course Details
The course is structured around four units:
Unit 1: Programming Fundamentals (Python)
Students learn the core principles of Programming and Computational thinking, developing the ability to design, implement, and evaluate software solutions.
Unit 2: Computer Network Security & Encryption
This unit explores how to protect data and systems across Computer Networks, with a focus on cybersecurity principles and encryption techniques.
Unit 3: Human-Computer Interaction
Students examine how users interact with digital systems and apply this understanding to design effective user interfaces and experiences (UI/UX) students must develop a HCI solution to a given brief.
Unit 4: Practical Programming
Students apply their programming knowledge in a real-world context, managing the development of a software solution in response to a given brief.
These units form a mix of theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience, preparing students for work in industry or further study in Computer Science, Computing or Information Technology.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
Units 1 and 2 are Externally Assessed (Examination)
66% Exam and 33% Coursework
Units 3 and 4 are Internally Assessed (Coursework)
Entry requirements
Grade 5-9 in GCSE Maths or Grade 4-9 in GCSE Computer Science (if taken)
