Course Summary
Have you ever wondered what makes someone a criminal? Were they born a criminal? Is it your nature or nurture? Does society make people into criminals? If you have ever wondered what the answer to these questions are then the Criminology diploma is probably for you!
Criminology is part of the Social Sciences Department at The Abbey School, it is the scientific study of crime and criminals, and this includes theories behind the causes of crime, political views on the management of crime, as well as discussing how effective the Criminal Justice System is in the UK. With studies suggesting that over 75% of people are re-offending after leaving prison, we discuss what might be the reasons behind this. How effectively is society controlled? Are criminals being punished properly?
Being able to link a crime scene to a suspect will require your detective skills as well as the ability to work out how to process a crime scene. You will need to learn how to defend your suspect and how to question a witness, after all of that the judge will make their decision, guilty or not guilty? Do you think you have the skills to be a successful Criminologist?
Course Details
Criminology is the study of crime and punishment, the theories behind what makes somebody a criminal and the punishments that work alongside it.
