Course Summary
During this course, you will gain a detailed understanding of every aspect of the dance world. This will allow you to develop yourself as a performer and expand your knowledge of the development of dance in a wider context. This A Level forms an excellent foundation for the study of dance at a higher level.
Through the course, there will be opportunities for learners to go on dance trips to see professional dance companies and to participate in workshops with dance practitioners. You will be expected to wear clothes appropriate for dance.
Course Details
This qualification is designed for candidates with a substantial dance background. Candidates are required to: choreograph, perform, and analyze solo and group dances, study various dance works in depth (which includes observational dance trips and workshops), and examine the development of dance with a focus on specific dance practitioners. You must be prepared to write essays as this is an essential element of the course.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
Component 1: Performance and Choreography
Practical exam
Solo performance, performance in a quartet, and group choreography
Component 2: Critical Engagement
Written exam: 2 hours 30 minutes
Understanding and critical appreciation of two set works
Entry requirements
At least 5 GCSEs graded 9-5 including Dance and English at grade 4 or above and/or other substantial Dance experience or examinations.
