Course Summary
.Food Technology at this level is valuable for a variety of careers in the retail industry, the food production industry, catering and hospitality. The course encourages students to:
• Develop creativity, to recognise constraints and to produce high quality products.
• Develop a critical understanding of the influences of the processes and products.
• Apply essential knowledge, understanding and skills of design production processes to a range of technological activities and develop and understanding of industrial practices.
• Use ICT to enhance their design and technological capability.
• Develop as discerning consumers to make informed choices.
• Develop positive attitudes of co-operation and citizenship, and work collaboratively.

You could take this course to complement other advanced level courses such as Art and Design and Computing or to prepare for the A2 part of an Advanced GCE in Design and Technology, which could lead onto higher education in areas of and design, technology, architecture or more general higher education courses. With further training, you could go into a job related to design and technology such as an Architect, Carpenter or Computer Technician. You could also go straight into a job as the AS GCE is a recognised qualification that will encourage you to explore your creative mind and help you develop the basic skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for.
