Course Summary

You will undertake three main projects across the year that involve aspects of a range of skills and areas of study. You can expect to attend classes that have a focus on acting technique and practitioners, vocal training in the Estill Method, Musical Theatre repertoire, technical dance classes that include Ballet, Tap, Contemporary, Jazz, Commercial and fitness. These classes are designed to challenge you, build upon your previous experience and to better prepare you for HE/Professional conservatoires. You will also be given the opportunity to direct your focus further towards dance, or acting through song. You will attend sessions and develop skills in production roles such as Front of House duties, Stage Management, Lighting Operator, Set and Props Design, Sound Operator and Wardrobe Assistant. In your final major project you have the opportunity to decide whether you would like to undertake a performance or production role. As a part of your course you will also be supported by staff to create professional performance CVs, prepare audition material and repertoire folders for your future career. In each area of study you will undertake rigorous research , apply your findings to create and devise performance material, perform your creations to an audience and then evaluate your progress to set personal targets for the next project.

Entry requirements

Five GCSEs at grade C/4 or above including English and maths at grade C/4 or above.

Many of our students progress onto higher education to give themselves a better chance of entering this highly competitive industry. Careers within dance and musical theatre not only include work for stage and screen but also work in the travel and tourism entertainment sector, education and lots more. Careers in dance are varied but can include becoming a professional dancer, choreographer, dance therapist, community dance worker and more.
