Your next steps...

Why choose English Language and Literature:

If you enjoy reading, yet have a creative flair then English Language and Literature is the course for you. With its focus on how the power of language creates inspiring literary texts, coupled with the opportunity to apply the very same writing skills to your own imaginative writing, the Lang/Lit course is a fantastic opportunity to develop in all areas of English at A level.

For you, this course is really about the use of language in the real world. From TV adverts, to youtube travel guides, to online discussion forums and graphic novels -we really do immerse ourselves in it all. The study of language theory is exciting and ever changing- offering the chance for students to be critical evaluators and thinkers.

Student Quote! ‘It challenges aspects of everyday language and changes them into something new. Something you may not have learned at GCSE.’

Skills and progression:

Designed with a focus on the integration of language and literature, the course allows you to explore different modes of communication and investigate how authors craft language for effect.

The variety of assessment styles used, such as re-creative writing, commentary writing, discursive essays and research-based investigative writing, encourages you to develop a wide range of skills. These include the ability to read critically, analyse, evaluate and undertake independent research, which are invaluable for both further study and future employment.

At A level you will build on your work at GCSE level, but do so in a way that attempts to find connections between these different types of study, and in doing so present a more holistic and exciting kind of ‘English’.

Have that experience with us and study ‘LangLit’!
