English Language GCSE Re-sit

Please note an Extended Certificate is the equivalent of one A-Level, a Foundation Diploma one and half an A-Level and Diploma the equivalent of two A-Levels. Students should apply for one Diploma and one Extended Certificate or three Extended Certificate subjects.

This course provides students with another opportunity to secure a grade 4 in GCSE English Language. All students on the course will study the new GCSE specification introduced for first examination in the 2016/2017 school year, regardless of any previous attempts. The exam board is AQA.

The course is organised into two parts: Explorations in Creative Reading and Writing and Writer’s Viewpoints and Perspectives. During the course students will read and be assessed on high-quality, challenging texts from the 19th, 20th and 21st century.

Throughout, students will be supported in developing their writing including demonstrating a con dent control of Standard English, writing grammatically correct sentences and deploying gurative language.

The course offers a skill based approach and is assessed in two written examinations that take place at the end.
