Extended Project is an exciting qualification that puts you in control, giving you the chance to explore something that really interests you. You can select a project topic title which expands your learning in another subject or one that is relevant to your own personal interest. It’s worth half an A Level that will earn you extra UCAS points and teach you skills that are valued by universities and employers.

The Extended Project has no exams, just coursework, so if you’re self-motivated and enjoy working independently – whether in a practical way, like designing or performing, or researching, investigating and writing - then the Extended Project is for you. You can:
• learn more about something that interests you
• investigate a controversial topic
• expand your knowledge of one of your AS or GCE subjects
• gain practical skills that will help you in Higher Education and the workplace
Below are the titles of some Projects that students have already completed.
Dissertation
- Why do some 14-19 year olds smoke?
- Can you believe in God and the Big Bang?
- Should children be forced to exercise?
Investigation
- Is Wi-Fi safe?
- Do violent computer games contribute to anti-social behaviour?
- Do government health campaigns affect levels of binge drinking?
Course Details
Students benefit from a structured timetable and access to regular support and feedback. They will also be assisted in career’s guidance and follow-on destination routes.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
Assessment:
You will learn and be assessed on:
- How well you manage your work, such as planning your time and choosing what methods to use.
- How you Select and use information and resources throughout the project
- The range of skills you develop and use to achieve what you set out to do.
- How effectively you review your own work
In other words, it’s not what you produce but the process you used to manage your project. What you learn and how you perform throughout the time you spent on your project all count towards your final grade.
