Course Summary

This course is an opportunity to study a broad-based art course specializing in Fashion. It is a practical course supported by written research into related historical and contemporary Art & Design movements and practice. It includes trips to local and national galleries and opportunities to exhibit work. Students will be supported to develop their professional skills in preparation for a career in the Fashion Industry and it is an ideal course for those aiming to progress onto Foundation, HND, or Degree level in a specialist area. This course is equivalent to 2 A Levels and should be studied alongside another Level 3, A Level, or vocational qualification.

You will need the necessary basic materials and equipment such as pencils, fabrics, sewing equipment, scissors, sketchbooks, and a portfolio case. Other costs will be for some specialist materials for personal projects and trips such as visits to galleries and museums.

Course Details

Students will study 12 units over two years. There are compulsory units which embrace transferable skills such as visual recording, contextual influences, and communicating ideas and concepts in fashion, along with six specialist fashion projects exploring fashion designing, up-cycling fashion products, fashion illustration, and textiles design.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

All units comprise of taught and independently guided practical and written assignments, which focus on the different skills needed to develop work within specific practical areas.

Entry requirements

At least 4-5 GCSEs graded 9-4 including English at grade 4 or above. Grade 4 or above in an Art-based subject is recommended.
