How will it be delivered and assessed?
There are two written examinations which form 70% of the qualification and a practical production which accounts for 30% of the marks. Essay writing and analysis are key skills that are crucial to success in Film Studies. Across the course you will be challenged to critically analyse texts with academic essay writing. Throughout the A-Level you will be encouraged to practice and develop these skills which are also widely applicable to other humanities subjects. Production work is also an important part of this specification. Studying a diverse range of films from several different contexts is designed to give students the opportunity to apply their knowledge and understanding of how films are constructed to their own filmmaking and screenwriting. This is intended to enable learners to create high quality film or screenplay work as well as provide an informed filmmaker's perspective on their own study of film.

Your next steps...
A qualification in Film Studies is evidence of an ability to apply critical approaches to film, as well as apply knowledge and understanding of film through either filmmaking or screenwriting. It will equip the learner for a range of courses in film, media and digital production in higher education and demonstrates an ability to research, analyse, evaluate and create. It is also a fantastic facilitating subject for subjects such as English, Art and History. Most of all, it offers the opportunity to explore a range of important ideas and emotions, reflect on art and technology, and connect theory and creative practice in ways which are designed to provide an absorbing and motivating educational experience.
