Course Summary

The Forensics science BTEC will cover all aspects of science. In the first year students will study biology, chemistry and physics in line with applied science. They will complete practicals in these subjects which allow them to develop their practical skills and techniques. They will then move on to study the forensics of fire investigation, how forensics investigate a crime scene and the physiology of the human body.

Course Details

The Level 3 Forensic Investigation (Edexcel) content is taught in 4 units (units 1-4) with 2 optional units (units 8 and 10) in preparation for the examinations and coursework:

  • Unit 1 – Principles and applications of science
  • Unit 2 – Practical scientific procedures and techniques
  • Unit 3 – Science investigation skills
  • Unit 4 – Forensic Investigation Procedures in Practice
  • Unit 8 – Physiology of Human body systems
  • Unit 10 – Forensic fire investigations

How will it be delivered and assessed?

  • Units 1 and 3 is an externally assessed exam unit.
  • Units 2, 4, 8 and 10 are internally assessed coursework units
